Fiorentina want to reinvest the money from Giampaolo Pazzini and Pablo Daniel Osvaldo’s January sales in a top-name striker next summer and have set their sights on Lazio marksmen Mauro Zarate and Goran Pandev.

After crashing out of the Champions League at the first hurdle, Fiorentina decided to trim the squad during the winter session of the Calciomercato and offloaded Pazzini and Osvaldo to Sampdoria and Bologna, respectively.

But if they can again qualify for Europe’s premier club competition, director of sport Pantaleo Corvino is expected to be given considerable funds to strengthen the side and is willing to prise either Zarate or Pandev away from the Stadio Olimpico.

However, Lazio are expected to tie both players to long-term contracts very soon, as the Macedonian international’s current deal will expire in 2010, while President Claudio Lotito will travel
to Qatar this month to secure the permanent signing of the ‘Zarate Kid’.

Therefore, Fiorentina could turn to either Palermo forward Edinson Cavani, who has impressed in Sicily this season, or Robert Acquafresca, who should return to his parent club Inter after a two-year loan spell at Cagliari.
