Andres Iniesta: I Want To Retire With Barcelona
Andres Iniesta has declared that he is hoping to play against Valladolid this weekend and that he wants to spend the rest of his career with Barcelona.
The influential midfielder injured himself training with Spain last week and was not able to take part in the game against Turkey at the Bernabeu.
He will also miss the away leg of the double-header this Wednesday, but he told Sport that he does not feel that he is irreplaceable.
“Spain have already won without me and they will continue to do so, and also without many other players,” he mused. “Fortunately, teams do not depend on just one player.”
His absence was certainly felt at Barcelona; without him Barca had a drop in form earlier this year that saw Real Madrid close the gap at the top of the league.
He also revealed his frustration at having missed so many fixtures this season but said that he expects to be “100 per cent as soon as possible” so he can “play every game” until the end of the season.
“I am doing better and I hope that I can play on Saturday,” he said.
The Spaniard also spoke about his future with Barcelona and rumours that he might move on from the Camp Nou.
“I cannot tell people not to speak about me but I have a contract here until 2014 and, if God wants, I will retire with Barcelona – that is my desire,” he explained. “Everyone is where they want to be and I want to be here.”
The midfielder also believes that his team-mate Victor Valdes shares his desire to remain at the club, despite reports suggesting otherwise.
“The main thing I can say about it is that I want Victor to be with us for a very long time,” the dynamic star stated. “That is what I think he wants and [I think] the club [wants it] too. As his team-mate and friend I can only wish him the best. I expect the matter will be resolved as soon as possible.”
