Fantastic Poland Crush San Marino 10-0
Poland recorded their biggest ever international victory tonight as they played hosts to Group Three minnows San Marino. The home side managed to notch an incredible 10 goals over their opponents, while the visitors failed to net at all.
The impressive result comes after Poland suffered a humiliating defeat at the feet Northern Ireland due to a howler by goalkeeper Artur Boruc. Lukasz Fabianski replaced Boruc well tonight, as the young keeper managed to keep a clean sheet for his side.
Not one, but two records were broken by the Poles tonight, as Rafal Boguski registered after mere 25 seconds for his country. The first half would also include goals from Euzebiusz Smolarek and Robert Lewandowski, with Boguski claiming his second before the whistle.
Smolarek managed to score an additional three goals after the restart, taking his tally to four, while Ireneusz Jele?, Mariusz Lewandowski and Marek Saganowski all added to Poland’s collective haul that spelled an awfully long night for San Marino.
Poland are now just three points behind the group frontrunners Northern Ireland, with a game in hand over the current Group Three leaders.
The result relieves some of the pressure that had been put on head coach Leo Beenhakker in the wake of the defeat in Ireland, especially coupled with fact that the team broke two international records under his tutelage.
