Lokomotiv Moscow Sack Rakhimov
Lokomotiv Moscow have sacked their coach Rashid Rakhimov just six games into the Russian Premier League season following a poor start to the campaign.
Vladimir Maminov, former midfielder for Lokomotiv, has been named caretaker boss for the next two months as they look for a replacement. A statement from the club’s official website stated that, “today club president Nikolai Naumov relieved head coach Rashid Rakhimov of his duties”.
After finishing seventh last season the coach was expected to lift the club higher this year but so far they have just one win to their name. Already out of the domestic cup, they currently sit 13th in the table and will be keen to turn things around under Maminov.
Rakhimov is the second high-profile coach in Russia to lose his job in the space of two weeks after Michael Laudrup was dismissed from his role as Spartak Moscow boss. Both men have paid for poor results at the start of the campaign and having being appointed as coach back in December 2007, Rakhimov will now look for another job.
