Leo Franco Leaving Atletico Madrid This Summer
Leo Franco has decided to leave Atletico Madrid this summer, after the club failed to offer him a new contract. The Argentine, who has been with the Spanish team for five seasons, will become a free agent this summer when his current deal expires.
Even though Atleti are reported to have offered him an extension in the winter, an agreement was never reached, and he will now leave in June.
Marca reports that the the goalkeeper will now have two options; to stay in Spain or to leave and move to Turkey, where there is interest. Should he stay in Spain, it is thought that Real Betis would be the most likely suitors, although how he would fit in with their current ‘keeper Ricardo is not clear.
For that reason, he may well choose to move on to Turkey, where both Fenerbahce and Galatasary are thought to be interested. Both sides would offer a good salary, and there is also the chance to compete in Europe, as well as for domestic titles.
As for Atletico, they look like they may well sign Sergio Asenjo from Valladolid to replace the Argentine this summer. If not, they have talent in their reserve team in the likes of David De Gea, who has been rumoured to be moving to Barcelona.
