Inter left-back Maxwell is reportedly of interest to Barcelona and AC Milan, but his agent has surprisingly claimed he could stay with the Nerazzurri after all.

“I spoke yesterday with the Nerazzurri management regarding Maxwell, I can tell you we are considering a renewal and extension of his contract,” he revealed to the microphones of FcInterNews.

“Is it possible he remains at Inter? Things are moving forward, let’s see what happens. We have set a deadline with the club and will discuss the situation.”

The 27-year-old lost his place in the line-up due to the emergence of teenager Davide Santon.

The press have speculated that Maxwell’s future is heavily tied to that of fellow Brazilian Maicon. If the Confederations Cup participant leaves the club, then Santon would switch over to right-back and Maxwell would regain his spot on the left.

Maxwell joined Inter from Ajax in 2006, spending one year with Empoli on-loan before featuring under then coach Roberto Mancini. Overall, he has made nearly 80 appearances for the club in Serie A.
