Rafael van der Vaart could rejoin Hamburg this summer after the Bundesliga outfit made an enquiry to Real Madrid and received a positive response; but they face competition from Ajax and Werder Bremen.

The Dutch star is one of the players who has been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu with the new regime hoping to off-load several stars in a bid to raise finances.

All of the Netherlands players are said to have a price and Van der Vaart is aware that he has not impressed during his one season in Madrid and that could count against him.

Van der Vaart has stated that he does not wish to leave Madrid, but L’Equipe believe that he may have no choice if the right offer comes in for his services.

After spending three years with Hamburg it is unlikely that the attacking midfielder will want to return, while Werder may also miss out even if they ask him to replace Diego in their side.

Martin Jol is said to be keen to take Van der Vaart back to Ajax, but that could be seen as a step backwards and England now remains the most likely destination if he does leave the Spanish club.
