Galatasaray Get Leo Franco on a Free Transfer

Atletico Madrid Football News - Leo FrancoGalatasaray have announced the signing of experienced Argentine goalkeeper Leo Franco on a free transfer this afternoon.

The shot-stopper joins the Turkish club after his deal with Atletico Madrid expired and was not renewed.

He has already passed a medical exam with Galatasaray and he is expected to join up with the rest of the squad, who are currently in Holland, this afternoon.

His departure from Atletico comes just a day after another experienced goalkeeper, Gregory Coupet, left the Spanish club.

They are now counting on securing the signing of highly-rated youngster Sergio Asenjo and also have David De Gea coming up through the ranks.

For Leo Franco, the move brings an end to a five-year spell with Atletico that started back in 2004 when he joined from Real Mallorca.

The Argentine played around 150 matches during his time in the Spanish capital and leaves the club on good terms after some impressive displays, especially last season when he helped them to qualify for the Champions League.
