Olympiakos Ready to Bid Real Betis’ Mark Gonzalez

Real Betis Football News - Mark GonzalezGreek champions Olympiakos are interested in Real Betis star Mark Gonzalez and are set to make an enticing bid for the former Liverpool man, according to reports.

Andalusian publication Diario de Sevilla reports that the Kokkini have been monitoring the Chilean winger following Betis’ relegation to the Segunda Division on the final day of the Spanish season. They are said to value Gonzalez somewhere in the region of €5m.

The Verdiblancos need to offload some of their higher earners to balance the books and the troubled club look set to lose some of their key players such as Edu, Achille Emana and now Gonzalez.

“We are in discussions, but we cannot say any more at this time,” commented Olympiakos sporting director Ioannis Chryssopoulos.

Gonzalez’ agent Cristian Ugalde added, “The deal is being negotiated between the two clubs and we must wait on them providing us with information.”

Gonzalez joined Betis after a difficult spell in England under Rafa Benitez at Liverpool, where he struggled to adapt to the fast-paced Premier League.

His return to Spain was, initially, hampered by injuries but he was one of his sides’ better performers last season, despite their relegation.

It is understood that for a deal to be concluded, the clubs must agree on a valuation for the player, with Betis demanding more than the €5m that has been offered by the Greek side.
