Everton have confirmed they are in negotiations with Arsenal over the transfer of Swiss defender Philippe Senderos.

The centre-back spent last season on loan at Italian giants AC Milan but was unable to secure a permanent move.

Everton confirmed the news on their official website with club chairman Bill Kenwright saying, “We have been negotiating with Arsenal for the transfer of Philippe.

“Nothing has been concluded yet but talks are ongoing.”

Senderos would follow fellow defender Kolo Toure out of the Emirates this summer and may open the door for current Everton centre back Joleon Lescott to move to Manchester City.

Lescott has been publicly courted by Manchester City and handed in a verbal transfer request yesterday.

Manager David Moyes rejected the request but the England international is reportedly preparing to officially approach his chairman over the matter.

Senderos has made over 100 appearances for Arsenal since joining in 2003.
