West Brom midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu has withdrawn himself from international duty for the foreseeable future.

DR Congo failed to reach the third and final round of African qualifying for next year’s World Cup after finishing third in their group, which means they will also miss out on the African Cup of Nations in the New Year.

Mulumbu, 22, has also been angered by a lack of professionalism in the international set-up and has told national coach Patrice Neveu he does not want to be considered for Congo until further notice.

“It is not easy with the DR Congo team, their officials are so unprofessional,” he told skysports.com.

“I can’t see myself playing for them unless they improve.

“We are out of the two main competitions in 2010, we don’t have any sponsors – nothing at all – so I don’t want to waste my energy.

“I love my country, love to play for my country, but things need to improve before I can play there again.”

Mulumbu joined West Brom on a permanent deal this summer after being on loan from Paris St Germain last season, when he was unable to prevent the club being relegated from the Premier League.

But he is determined to help the Baggies back into the top flight this season and will be available for manager Roberto Di Matteo throughout the campaign, having ruled himself out of international commitments.

“We want to be back in the Premier League and show people we can stay in that league,” Mulumbu added.
