Pohang Steelers are closer to the final of the Asian Champions League after a 2-0 win over Umm Salal in the first leg of the semi-final.

Hwang showed the striker how to do it two minutes into injury time with a powerful, and free, header from a right-sided corner.

As the game progressed, the two-time Asian champions began to run out of ideas and there was little of the incisive football that destroyed Bunyodkor in the quarter-final and Newcastle Jets in the round before that.

That all changed ten minutes from time as Kim Jae-sung headed a Song Chang-ho cross into the top corner.

The goal sparked Pohang back into life and the hosts continued to look likelier to score than Umm Salal.

Defender Choi Hyo-jin went close in injury-time but failed to get the goal that would surely have put Pohang in the final in Tokyo on November 7.
