Football Transfer NewsAccording to a report in The Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are interestin in signing Benfica striker Angel Di Maria. The Red Devils apparently see the 21-year-old as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who left for Real Madrid in the summer.

The player impressed in the Eagles’ 5-0 win over the Toffees in Portugal a fortnight ago, and is highly-rated by his national coach Diego Maradona.

United have struggled to replace Ronaldo so far this season. Antonio Valencia has looked solid, but Nani’s form is variable at best and Zoran Tosic does not look quite ready for the first team.

Alex Ferguson will reportedly attend Benfica’s Europa League clash with Everton at Goodison Park and it is apparently Di Maria he will be watching.
