Bundesliga Football News – Swiss international Tranquillo Barnetta has signed a two-year extension to his contract with Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen. The midfielder will continue his career at the Werkself until the summer of 2012.
“I’m glad that Tranquillo has signed a new deal,” head coach Jupp Heynckes told the club’s official website. “He’s not just a great bloke, but we need players like Barnetta and Renato Augusto who can break through defences.
“Tranquillo also contributes a lot to the team and we have avoided losing a key player. The club has done a good job again.”
The highly-rated midfielder has made well over 125 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen since joining the German outfit in 2005.
The 24-year-old midfielder was continually linked with a move abroad last summer. Premier League outfit Everton and Serie A side Lazio were reportedly keeping tabs on Barnetta, but a transfer never materialised.
