Bundesliga outfit Hamburg are considering a move for Schalke 04 striker Kevin Kuranyi, according to a report in German newspaper Kicker.

HSV are eager to add another striker to their squad due to the lengthy injury absences of Mladen Petric and Paolo Guerrero, and Kuranyi is reportedly one of the main candidates to join the Rothosen.

The 27-year-old attacker’s current Schalke deal is due to expire in the summer of 2010, and Kuranyi is widely expected to leave the Gelsenkirchen side on a Bosman move.

However, Schalke could now opt to cash in on the striker in the upcoming winter transfer window, gaining a little money and lightening their wage burden.

Kuranyi is one of the top earners at the Konigsblauen and his departure would perfectly suit Schalke’s plans to improve their tricky financial situation.
