Italian Serie A Round-Up
Fiorentina 2-1 Bari
Fiorentina won an exciting encounter 2-1 over Bari in Serie A at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. Bari eventually took the lead through Barreto, scoring in his fourth consecutive match. After wasting a couple of promising counters, Alessandro Ranocchia nodded a corner to the back post and the Brazilian pounced for the lead. The Viola defence was looking quite shaky over the last few minutes, so a goal was in the air.
Adrian Mutu was an active force and his powerful header from the edge of the area was tipped over by the ever-ready Gillet. It was a sign of things to come, as the equaliser arrived on 38 minutes. A curling cross from Manuel Pasqual was met by the Romanian’s head in the centre of the area to make it 1-1.
The pressure was mounting however and after Riccardo Montolivo cracked the ball off the cross bar from outside the area, it was the substitute Castillo who gave the Viola a 2-1 advantage with 15 minutes left. The former Lecce striker did not celebrate as he may be joining Bari during the winter transfer window.
Napoli 1-0 Sampdoria
Napoli continued their winning run in Serie A in 2010 as they defeated Sampdoria 1-0. After an evenly contested first half, the home side dominated in the second session and garnered maximum points, thanks to a 71st minute headed goal from German Denis.
Udinese 1-1 Lazio
Udinese failed to win and could only get a 1-1 draw against Lazio at the Stadio Friuli. On 15 minutes it was the visitors who took the lead however, and once again it was Floccari who did the damage for the Biancocelesti. Lazio’s new arrival nodded home Roberto Baronio’s free kick to become the Aquile joint top scorer just six days after having joined the capital outfit.
The Zebrette found a leveller when Di Natale floated a wonderful free kick over the wall into the roof of the net. The Italian hitman dedicated the goal to his coach underlining Udinese’s togetherness despite their current difficulties.
Bologna 0-1 Cagliari
Bologna were defeated 1-0 by Cagliari at home. The only goal of the match came in the 66th minute by Alessandro Matri.
Livorno 2-1 Parma
Livorno defeated Parma 2-1 at home. Francesco Tavano scored in 23rd minute and it was doubled two minutes after the hour mark when Cristiano Lucarelli scored. Parma pulled one back just six minutes later through Blerim Dzemaili.
Palermo 1-0 Atalanta
Palermo defeated Atalanta 1-0 at home. The only goal of the match came 20 minutes from time when Edinson Cavani converted a penalty. It was awarded because of a foul on Cavani by Leonardo Talamonti.
