England Learns From Egypt
England‘s 3-1 victory over Egypt shows The Three Lions superority. But Fabio Capello after the match felt that his team could learn a valuable lessons from the Pharaoh.
Playing in front of their own supporters, England went behind in the first 45 minutes of the game. But the host could eventually reverse the situation through two-goals by Peter Crouch and one from Shauwn Wright Phillips in the second half.
In the match which took place at Wembley, the Egyptians, who are the African Nations Cup champions in 2010, broke through the England defense and scored the opening goal by Mohamed Zidan in the 23rd minute.
Capello felt that the game gave England a valuable lesson as they will meet Algeria in Group C of the 2010 World Cup. For the record, Algeria beat Egypt in the playoffs of the 2010 World Cup African zone.
“Egypt is a good team and they performed very well in the first half – I learned a lot from them. The style of North African football is different in to style of Central Africa or South Africa, and as we expected that Algeria would play – high tempo and great technique, ” Capello said after the game.
Capello admitted his overall satisfaction with the performance of his squad.
“I think Egypt ran too much in the first half and they were exhausted in the second half.”
“We created four opportunities in the first half and (Jermain) Defoe scored two goals so I am satisfied with the first half even though we lost (in the first half),” Capello added.
