Tony Mowbray Sacked by Celtic

Tony Mowbray has left Celtic after crisis talks following the club’s 4-0 defeat against St Mirren.

The club confirmed on Thursday that Mowbray was sacked after a lunch-time meeting following the shocking defeat on Wednesday night.

The former West Bromwich Albion boss has been under increasing pressure in recent weeks as the Scottish Premier League club fell ten points behind Glasgow rivals Rangers in the title race, losing seven games in the process.

Sky Sports News reported on Wednesday that the players had been told of Mowbray’s departure and that reserve team coach Neil Lennon had taken temporary control of the side until the end of the season.

Mowbray only replaced former manager Gordon Strachan last summer, but following the defeat at St Mirren Park, refused to go into details when asked about his future at the club.

“I don’t think I want to get into that tonight. I don’t think it’s a pertinent question, he told the Press Association Sport after the game.

“I’ve explained the game, in trying to be positive we lost a few goals. I take responsibility.

“Sometimes it can backfire and you have to take it on the chin.”
