Arsenal To Sign Carlton Cole?

According to the News of the World, Arsenal have ramped up their interest in England international Carlton Cole after doubts over the possibility of long-term transfer target Marouane Chamakh emerged.

The report claims West Ham United are aware of interest from the Emirates, but may be prepared to sell the £12 million rated Cole to boost finances, something that may become a priority should the Hammers be relegated this season.

Arsene Wenger has reportedly had Cole watched since he returned from injury in January, and despite the striker having signed a five-year contract in 2008, the Frenchman is confident he can capture his man at a reduced price if the Hammers fail to escape the drop.

Cole is the Hammers’ topscorer this season with nine goals, his last coming back in February in the Irons’ 3-0 win over Hull City.

West Ham currently lie one place above the relegation zone, with just goal difference keeping them out of the bottom three. – goal
