According to Correire dello Sport, Lazio want to sign Portugese striker Hugo Almeida.

The 26-year-old has not yet signed a new deal at Werder Bremen and has only a year left on his current contract.

Almeida had previously committed himself to the club but quickly changed his mind, declaring his intentions to leave.

Lazio would need to offer €4-5 million to land their man but much depends on the on-going sagas with Sao Paulo midfielder Hernanes and Portsmouth’s Kevin-Prince Boateng.

The player’s agent, Pedro Mendes, will return from Russia shortly to start negotiating a deal but the Italian capital club will have to fend off interest from elsewhere.

Former mentor Jose Mourinho is also looking at the possibility of adding the player he nutured at Porto to his Real Madrid ranks, according to rerports.
