Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has praised the committment shown by his side on Saturday afternoon after they beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 inside Ewood Park.

The Gunners took away maximum spoils from Ewood Park courtesy of goals from the impressive Theo Walcott and Andrei Arshavin each side of a strike from Rovers forward Mame Biram Diouf.

“I was not disappointed by the test, the quality of the test, or the resilience. We were not a fortress on the goal, we conceded but we did well to get back into the game,” Wenger told Sky Sports after the game.

“Maybe where we were not focused is on the goal we conceded but overrall we had enough resources to come back and win the game.

“Overall, we have more experience and calm in the box. They give a strong test to any team in the world, but we needed commitment.”

Wenger admitted to altering his tactics to combat the style of their opponents on the day, insisting he needed more of a physical presence during the game to compete with the Rovers squad.

“I took Wilshere off today because I knew we needed size because we are not the tallest side. We needed players who can fight on set-pieces,” Wenger explained.

And the Gunners chief reserved praise for Walcott, who gave another Man-of-the-Match performance after last weekend’s impressive display against Blackpool.

“Give credit to the player. [his improvement] that’s down to attitude and motivation. He is a young boy who will only improve.” Wenger said.

Lastly, Wenger expressed hope that Robin Van Persie, who had twisted his ankle during the game, can make a recovery in ‘eight to 10 days’.
