Laurent Blanc: Players Have to Sing the National Anthem!
France coach Laurent Blanc told all players to sing the national anthem during the Euro 2012 qualifying match against Belarus, Friday [4/9] night.
According to Blanc, this policy is taken so that the players have responsibility of wearing the national team jersey. Blanc admitted that he is quite concerned, because a number of young players are not fluent in singing La Marseillaise.
The incidents during World Cup training in 2010 also became the basis of the policy. As a result of the incident, the French football suffered a severe blow. By singing the national anthem, it is expected to grow a sense of pride to play for the national team.
“Personally I urge players to sing La Marseillaise, because see some among them who are not familiar with the lyrics. If you know the national anthem, then you should sing it, ” said Blanc to AP.
“I do not have a chance to sing the national anthem. I never sang that song in the shower. But when you represent a country, and you play for the national team, it is an honor to sing the national anthem.”
