Esperance 1-0 Al Ahly (2010-10-17)

Tunisian side Esperance Sportive de Tunis made it to their third finals of the CAF Champions League when they overturned a 1-0 deficit at home against 10-man Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Deputy captain Michael Eneramo secured the match winner for the Blood and Gold when he helped the ball home with his hand in the first minute from a corner kick. The Maradona-like ‘Hand of God’ goal by the leading goal scorer in the tournament was on the blind side of Ghana referee Joseph Lamptey.

Al Ahly midfielder Mohamed Barakat received his marching orders when he slapped an opponent in the 29th minute. The capacity crowd at the November 7 Stadium went into full voice as their home side stopped the six-time champions from reaching the finals.

The teams finished 2-2 on aggregate but the Tunisians go through to the finals based on the away goal rule. The Red Devils beat Esperance 2-1 in the first leg of the semi-finals in Cairo.

Esperance now book a final date with title holders TP Mazembe, who defeated Algeria’s JS Kabylie 3-1 on aggregate in their clases.
