Ronaldo Retires From Football
Veteran Brazilian striker Ronaldo will soon announce his retirement from football. Injury problems pushes the Corinthians striker to leave football. The 34-year-old strikers’ contract with Corinthians is still until 2011.
“I can not stay much longer,” said Ronaldo in an interview with Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper.
“I really want to stay. But am not able anymore. I want to move but can not do what I expect. It’s time to stop. However, I feel happy to finally have to stop,” he continued.
Ronaldo will announce his retirement on Monday. But he will join the management of Corinthians.
Ronaldo’s retirement ends a brilliant career journey for 18 years. He began rising along with PSV Eindhoven. At that time, Ronaldo joined the Dutch Eredivisie club after transferred from Cruzeiro in 1993.
Since then, he played with big clubs of Europe. Ronaldo, who is three times world’s best players had played for Inter Milan and AC Milan. He also showed is talent with Barcelona and Real Madrid.
In the history of the World Cup, Ronaldo had joined the Brazilian squad in USA 1994, but did not made an appearance. Brazil then won the World Cup. However, Ronaldo became Brazil’s top scorer when the team once again became champions of the 2002 World Cup.
Ronaldo’s retirement can not be separated from the failure of Corinthians in the Copa Libertadores. Corinthians was surprisingly eliminated in the early rounds and fan accused Ronaldo to be largely responsible for the failure of the team. Fans was disappointed because the Copa Libertadores championship is the only thing Corinthians have not won.
Supporters then damaged players’ cars and attacked the team bus. Ronaldo revealed that the violence done will make himself retire more quickly.
