‘Three Lions’ Supports John Terry as Captain
The appointment of John Terry as England captain again was not without controversy. But James Milner as a member of the ‘Three Lions’ squad asserted that the team fully supports the decision of Fabio Capello.
An injury to Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard made Capello finally chose Terry as the team leader. This is for the first time in 13 months Terry became captain again after being removed after his affair with Veronica Perroncel, former girlfriend of Wayne Bridge.
Terry’s appointment was said to make Ferdinand disappointed though eventually he accepted the decision. Clearly the British public have not forgotten about the incident last year ahead of their preparation for South Africa 2010.
But the England players had forgotten the incident and now Terry had received one hundred percent support from his team mates to lead the team against Wales in the Euro 2012 qualifiers and friendly match against Ghana.
“It’s only problem as usual, the manager made a decision and everyone likes John Terry,” Milner said to Sky Sports.
“We all just want to play together and win the game. That is our biggest goal,” he continued.
Although involved in an affair, Milner still sees the figure of Terry to still deserve to wear the captain’s armband. What he has shown at Chelsea last season with thier double winner is proof.
“He had shown it every week in the Premier League, where he performed all out for his team. He was not only a leader in the field but also outside and it is also important to have relationships with management,” said the Manchester City player.
“We have a lot of senior players who will say what they think and you should have it as a team,”
