Marseille Wins Coupe De La Ligue Again

Marseilla wins Coupe De La LigueOlympique Marseille became the first team to successfully defend the Coupe De La Ligue or the French League Cup after a single goal left back Taye Taiwo gave them a 1-0 win over Montpellier in the final at the Stade de France on Saturday (23/4).

Marseille who much more favorable went out attacking from the start. Marseille’s first golden opportunity came from a free kick in the 20th minutes, where Lucho Gonzalez’s shot could still be handles by goalie Laurent Pionnier.

Two minutes later, Montpellier replied. An action of Jamel Saihi forced Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda to work hard to save his goal.

In the 32nd minuted, Marseille should have scored the opener. Unfortunately midfielder Mathieu Valbuena’s volley still hits the goalpost.

Before the break, a golden opportunity again came for Marseille when a pass from striker Andre Ayew was headed by Andre Pierre Gignac. But Pionnier was able to perry it.

At the beginning of the second, Ayew failed to turn a golden opportunity into a goal as his header hits the goalpost.

When the match remained 10 minutes, Marseille finally broke the deadlock. Starting from a Benoit Cheyrou free kick, Taiwo struck the ball straight with a low kick.
