Argentina Through to the Quarter-Final of the Copa America
Hosts Argentina finally managed to secure a ticket to the quarter-finals of the Copa America 2011 after beating Costa Rica with a score of 3-0 today.
Argentina’s three goals were made by Sergio Aguero in the 45th minute, and 52nd minute, and one other goal was scored by Real Madrid player Angel Di Maria in the 63rd minute.
In the match, Argentina changed its lineup. Carlos Tevez and Ezequiel Lavezzi who always been a starter in the two previous matches, was parked. Their position was replaced by Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Aguero.
The change seemed to be very effective, Argentina controlled the game and made some golden opportunities through Higuain, the Real Madrid player, but unfortunately he always failed to finish his chances.
The goal came at the end of the first half through a flick by Aguero. Higuain’s shot outside the penalty box was blocked by Leonel Moreira, but the ball cane to Aguero and without difficulty he struck the ball and gave Argentina the lead 1-0.
In the second half Argentina appeared more confident after leading by one goal. The result came within 18 minutes Argentina scored two additional goals.
In the 52nd minute Aguero scored his second goal in the match. GettingĀ a through ball from Lionel Messi, The Atletico Madrid player managed to beat Moreira for the second time.
Eleven minutes later, it was Angel Di Maria‘s turn to get a through ball from Messi in the same are. And through his hard shot, Di Maria gave Argentina a 3-0 lead, which eventually lasted until the game ends.
With this result, Sergio Batista’s squad finished a runners up of Group A with five points from three matches. The winner of group A is Colombia who got two victories and one draw.
