Fernando Gago Closer to Join Boca Juniors on Loan
Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago appears to be on the verge of rejoining Boca Juniors, as club directors affirm that they are working towards securing a temporary switch to bring the Argentina international back to the Bombonera.
Gago, a long-term target of club officials as well as coach Julio Cesar Falcioni, could be in line to spend the next six months at Boca after struggling for continuity in Spain. Several club directors told Ole that negotiations were already underway to seal the move, which would see the 25-year-old play once more with the team he left in 2007 to join Madrid.
None of the sources were willing to be named, but those questioned affirmed that the interest of the Argentine giants was real and a loan deal was a distinct possibility.
“We are working on this, but it is not a done deal. It is possible,” one director explained, while adding that negotiations could be harmed if made public at such an early stage.
Meanwhile, another unnamed source revealed Gago’s desire to return while insisting that any deal was still far from being finalised.
“Fernando is interested, but have Boca spoken with Madrid? We don’t know anything,” the source maintained.
The midfielder won two national championships while a Boca player, in 2005 and 2006. He has also made 33 appearances for Argentina, including several in this year’s failed Copa America campaign.
