John Paintsil Does Not Regret Joining Leicester City

John PaintsilGhana defender John Paintsil has said it would be out of place for anyone to judge him for joining Leicester City after five years in the English Premier League.

Paintsil told Citi FM he was motivated to join The Foxes for more play time to safeguard his spot in the national team. The experienced player joined the second-tier side on a free transfer from Fulham despite offers from top flight sides in Italy.

“What motivates me is that every player wants to play under a manager who trusts him and believes in him that he can do the job,” the 30-year-old said. “For me Leicester is a big club.”

The former Maccabi Tel Aviv player said he was also convinced by the facilities of the club and the calibre of players.

“I visited the stadium and the training grounds and the facilities they have got here are Premier League facilities. I have no regrets of joining this club, it is a big club and they have quality players and if we stay together I think we can get the club to the elite division.

“I have been in the Premiership for five years and I know there are people who will say I have made the wrong decision, but I don’t believe that. At the end of the day I am a national asset and I want to be playing regularly and be ready for my nation every time,” the former West Ham man said.

“I can’t go to a big club and always sit in the stands and home and they will call me to come and play for my nation which is not worth it. So the decision that I made, I think is very good for myself and my nation.”
