Chelsea Defender Slobodan Rajkovic Joins Hamburg

Slobodan RajkovicHamburg have officially completed the signing of Slobodan Rajkovic from Chelsea. The German club confimed deal for the 22-year old defender on their official website.

Following Michael Mancienne, Gokhan Tore, Jacopo Sala and Jeffrey Bruma, Rajkovic becomes the fifth player this summer to follow sporting director Frank Arnesen in making the move from Chelsea to HSV.

“I’ve just arrived and will make no big promises, but I can promise that I will always give my best and give 100 per cent for the team,” the centre-back said.

“He’s a big and uncomfortable opponent,” coach Michael Oenning said of the 1.91-metre Rajkovic. “He is one that can spread fear and terror at times. He brings a quality that we did not have in the squad, and one we need. In addition, he is left-footed, so that was personally very important to me.”

Oenning declined to confirm the exact role Rajkovic will play at Hamburg, but if the Belgrade native becomes a starter in central defence, he will replace Mancienne or Bruma.

A seven-times capped Serbia international, Rajkovic never played competitively for Chelsea due to problems obtaining a work permit in England. He appeared regularly for PSV, Twente and Vitesse in the Eredivisie, however.

Hamburg have struggled defensively so far this season, conceding 10 goals in just three Bundesliga matches.
