Catania have signed free agent Nicola Legrottaglie, who spent six months last season on loan with AC Milan.

The 34-year-old defender is perhaps most famous for his extended spell at Juventus where he formed a partnership with Giorgio Chiellini.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Itasportpress.it, the centre-back discussed his goals at his new side: “I am happy to be part of this new adventure and I am honoured to wear this shirt.

“I thank president [Antonino] Pulvirenti and [sporting director Pietro] Lo Monaco, who have respected and considered me.”

“I told Lo Monaco that if I sign it is only because I want to be part of something important, and so it was.”

Legrottaglie revealed that there was an added incentive for him to join the side: “From Catania I know [Davide] Lanzafame, a former Juventus player like me, and I will know the others soon.”

Catania finished last season in 13th place in the Serie A standings.
