Gerrard Not Ready to Play for England
Steven Gerrard admitted that he is not yet fully prepared to play for England again. The Liverpool captain warns Fabio Capello that he has not recovered 100 percent to be able to join the team for the Euro 2012 qualifiers against Montenegro.
Gerrard had just played for 25 minutes since returning from a groin injury that kept him out for six months. For him, it is a little too fast if he had to force himself to play for the Three Lions.
Although it is not Gerrard who will decide the players who will be brought by Capello, but he argues that there are many players who are better prepared than he is.
“I think everyone knows that I am not fit for the game. I probably only played two games in 12 minutes. I’m not sure how long I will play against Everton. So I think it is still too early,” said Gerrard.
“It’s not my decision. It all depends on the England manager, whether to choose me or not. I’m sure he’ll discuss it first with Kenny (Dalglish) and they can decide what’s best for me. I think there are many players who are more fit to compete, but if I’m called, I’ll do it,” said Gerrard.
