Ryan Giggs wins Golden Foot 2011 Award

Manchester United midfielder, Ryan Giggs finally won the Golden Foot 2011 Award. The former Wales national team player managed to gain the most votes from nine other nominations this year.

Voting election of the Golden Foot 2011 award was done online. Since it was closed on Monday, at least more than 323,000 votes were collected. Giggs became the first player from Great Britain to win the Golden Foot award.

Giggs received the award from Prince Albert II, in Monte Carlo, Monaco on Monday (10/10) night. The Golden Foot award itself has been done for nine editions. Before Giggs, players like Roberto Baggio, Pavel Nedved, Andriy Shevchenko, Ronaldo, Alessandro Del Piero, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho and Francesco Totti had won the award.

“A great honor to win this award. And get my foot prints along with some of the greatest players that are very special,” said Giggs.

Besides Giggs, nine other names that were previously included in the list of candidates to win the Golden Foot 2011 award, among others are, David Beckham (England), Gianluigi Buffon (Italy), Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast), Samuel Eto’o (Cameroon), Iker Casillas (Spain) , Javier Zanetti (Argentina), Carles Puyol (Spain), Raul (Spain) and Xavi (Spain).
