Atalanta 1-1 Inter Milan

Inter Milan was fortunate to escape with a 1-1 draw against Atalanta on Wednesday as German Denis had a penalty kick saved by Inter goalkeeper Luca Castellazzi in the 89th minute.

Inter went in front midway through the first half with a goal from Wesley Sneijder, but his opener was canceled out by Denis shortly before the break.

Atalanta then had a great chance to claim all three points when Inter’s Cristian Chivu fouled Guido Marilungo inside the area.

But Denis’ poorly-taken penalty allowed Castellazzi to save the effort with his legs and preserve a point for his team, which has won only two of its first eight games in Serie A.

Napoli 2-0 Udinese

Napoli handed Udinese its first defeat in Serie A on Wednesday with first-half goals from Ezequiel Lavezzi and Christian Maggio in a 2-0 win.

Cesena remains the only team in Serie A without a win as the club was held to a 1-1 draw at home by Cagliari on Wednesday.

A penalty kick from Nene in the 19th minute put Cagliari in front, but Antonio Candreva answered with a spot-kick goal of his own in first-half stoppage time.

Cesena owns three points from eight games while Cagliari has drawn four of its last five matches.

Bologna 1-0 Chievo

The lone goal arrived in the 53rd minute with Gaston Ramirez setting up Acquafresca from six yards.

Chievo came close to equalizing through Davide Moscardelli, who hit the crossbar in the 62nd, while Ramirez also struck the bar for Bologna a few minutes later.

Bologna had lost three of its last four entering Wednesday, with Chievo having failed to score for the fourth match in a row.

Genoa 2-1 Roma

Genoa snapped a four-game winless streak on Wednesday with Juraj Kucka scoring the winning goal in the 89th minute of a 2-1 victory over AS Roma.

The capital club controlled play for long stretches but found itself behind at the break through a goal from Bosko Jankovic in the 38th minute.

Fabio Borini finally equalized for Roma with eight minutes to play, but the visitors got caught pushing for the winner and were punished in the 89th minute.

A corner kick was headed toward the net by Genoa’s Alexander Merkel and the ball struck the foot of Kucka and redirected past goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

Lazio 1-1 Catania

Lazio missed out on a chance to take over the top spot in Serie A on Wednesday as the club was held to a 1-1 draw at home by Catania.

Miroslav Klose’s fifth goal of the season put Lazio in front after 17 minutes, but Catania extended its unbeaten streak to five games as Gonzalo Bergessio netted the equalizer in the 63rd.

Lazio had won its last three games prior to Wednesday and sits one point back of leaders Juventus.
