Iranian Club Persepolis Targets Sven-Goran Eriksson and Bora Milutinovic As Coach

Nine-time Iranian champions Persepolis have named Sven-Goran Eriksson and Bora Milutinovic among the shortlist of candidates for the club’s coaching role.

Persepolis are currently seventh in the Iranian Pro League with four wins, four draws and four losses under the unpopular Hamid Estili.

Mohammad Ruyanian was appointed as the club’s new general manager late last month and he is keen to replace Estili with a high-profile boss.

“Persepolis football club is going to sign a big coach,” Ruyanian was quoted by Mehr News Agency.

“We have negotiated with Sven-Goran Eriksson and Bora Milutinovic as well as Mustafa Denizli. We have not reached an agreement with them yet.”

Eriksson, 63, is available after he left Leicester City by mutual consent late last month following stints in charge of Ivory Coast, Mexico and Manchester City.

Milutinovic, 67, is famous for being the only coach to ever take five different teams to five different Fifa World Cups.

Denizli, 61, previously coached Pas Tehran and Piroozi in Iran and has been out of a job since leaving Besiktas last year due to health problems.

However, last month Denizli denied he would be available to return to Persepolis due to contracts in Turkey.
