Sir Alex Ferguson Promises to Keep Dimitar Berbatov
Sir Alex Ferguson is sure Manchester United will most likely take advantage of clauses in the contract of Dimitar Berbatov that will make the Bulgarian striker stay for at least one year longer at Old Trafford.
The great performance of Javier Hernandez last season, and then Danny Welbeck this season, makes the chances of Berbatov to enter the main team of the Red Devils is threatened, not to mention the tempting offer from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, who are reportedly ready to get Berbatov with a transfer value of £ 15 million in January.
“Dimitar is still in my plan. I have read some news about it, but there is no reason at all to let him go. He is an exceptional player and we will provide one additional year,” promised Ferguson.
Berbatov’s contract will expire at the end of this season, and Ferguson admitted Berbatov’s fate that is less fortunate.
“Javier Hernandez’s appearance last season was great, but he (Berbatov) plays an important role and trains well. He is not angry. Berbatov is a great professional and we are happy he is here,” said Ferguson.
Sir Alex added, “You need a considerable number of strikers in the modern era. If you look to 1999 (when United won three titles at once), we had four great strikers. That’s what will happen this season.”
