Arsene Wenger Concerned About the Financial Fair Play Rule Effectiveness
Arsene Wenger has expressed his surprise of Manchester City’s claims of their readiness to apply the rules of Financial Fair Play, although in the most recent financial statements, they are the team with the largest expenditure in the history of English football.
Manchester City last week announced they had lost 195 million pounds to fund operations last year. This amount exceeds the previous record deficit in 2005 accounted for Chelsea’s Roman Abramovich in the second year in power, which reached 141 million pounds.
Whereas in the financial rules of fair play, it mentions that the team wanted to take part in the Champions League must demonstrate their financial balance sheet. This rule will be run at the 2013 UEFA season.
That’s what makes Arsene Wenger wondered why Manchester City could be so optimistic about their finance to balance by 2013.
“When I look at the amounts stated by Manchester City, I feel whether the rule will actually work in 2013. I can not see whether the amount of the salary budget could be greater than revenue. Frankly, it could not be implemented within one year,” he said, Wednesday (23/11).
“UEFA wants to stop the club with a large deficit playing in the Champions League. That’s their plan. But I question whether they are able to run it. Do they have the force of law?”
“In other countries, you can see Paris St Germain and Malaga with Qatari club owners. When they combine forces, it would be difficult to fight them,” he said.
