Neymar Awarded Copa Libertadores Best Player Title

Santos striker, was award as Copa Libertadores 2011 best player in a ceremony held on Thursday, (24/11). The young Brazilian striker promised the prize money from the award will be donated to a Brazilian children foundation.

The 19-year-old striker, who recently signed a new contract with Santos until 2014, attended the event organized by the competition sponsors, Banco Santander. Speaking to reporters, Neymar was pleased with the success he achieved this year.

“It’s a wonderful year, but it is not over,” said Neymar, accompanied by her father and his agent, Wagner Ribeiro. “There is still the Brasileirao competition, and also the Club World Cup.”

Neymar scored six goals in the Copa Libertadores, and helped Santos won for the first time since 1963 after a victory in the final over Penarol. From the award, he received 45,000 euros, and immediately donated it to a local charity that cares for children with cancer.

“It makes me very happy to help. I have achieved great things in my life, and it all that creates a lot of difference. And I will continue to help these children so that they have a bright future,” he added.
