Robinho Asked to Return to Santos

Santos president, Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro revealed his ambitious plans for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the club. He will try to bid for AC Milan, in order to get a chance to bring back Robinho to Santos on loan for a year.

The Brazilian giants celebrates its 100th anniversary on April 12, 2012, and Ribeiro wants on that historic day, players who had triumphed with his team would return to Vila Belmiro. Robinho is one of them.

If this happens, it means that Robinho will come back to Santos for the third time since joining Real Madrid in 2005. In 2010, Manchester City also had a chance to loan him to Santos.

Ribeiro admitted on Thursday that he had seen other possibilities. According to him, the most likely scenario for the desire to be achieved is for Robinho to sign a contract extension with Milan, until 2015 – to facilitate the deal.

“That (contract extension with Milan) is one of several options that could make the negotiations go through. Milan will not lose Robinho, and he still has a career ahead of him. This can make the players participating in the celebrate the history of the club,” explains Ribeiro to Globoesporte.

“This may be difficult, but not impossible. We focus on the Club World Cup for the near term. But after that we will be back to try to make this plan happen,” he added.

According to Ribeiro, if Robinho’s contract lasts much longer in Milan, then the option to loan him for year at Santos could happen. Moreover, he also believes Robinho is very interested with the plan.

“I asked Robinho, is it possible that he will return. He said, if it’s up to him, he would come to this club’s centennial celebration,” said Ribeiro. “Of course this does not only depend on him or us, the permission of Milan is the most important.”

If Milan finally gives permission, Robinho has a chance to play with young Santos and the Brazilian national team star, Neymar and Ganso in that one season.
