Real Zaragoza Sacks Javier Aguirre

Javier Aguirre sackedReal Zaragoza decided to terminate the contract of coach Javier Aguirre following the team’s poor performance in the first half of this season.

“Real Zaragoza have reached an agreement with Aguirre to cancel his contract as first team coach,” Zaragoza said in a statement.

“The situation in the Aragonese team requires emergency action, which is why this agreement can be reached.”

Aguirre himself was appointed to coach Zaragoza since November 2010, replacing Jose Aurelio Gay. Last season he managed to save Zaragoza from relegation.

Aguirre does not feel disappointed although he was hoping to stay until the end of the season.

“The players will get through this situation. I wanted to stay until the end of the season, but I understand things like this can happen in football,” said Aguirre.
