Wigan Athletic Wants Mame Biram Diouf on Loan
Wigan Athletic so far had not shown signs that they are able to compete in this years English Premier League. Until today, they are struggling to find their best rhythm and are still at the bottom of the English Premier League table.
One of the major problem for Wigan this season is their inability to convert chances into goals. They have been struggling in front of goal, and this of course needs to change if they want to pick themselves back up in the league standings. From all teams competing in the English Premier League, Wigan so far has the worst scoring record this season. They could only score 18 goals from 15 games.
Seeing the situation that his team is experiencing, Wigan coach, Roberto Martinez, is planning to strengthen his attacking force by adding a new striker in the January transfer window. This is crucial for Wigan seeing how difficult it is for them to get goals this season.
Wigan already have some good strikers up front, but unfortunately had not performed as expected. Franco Di Santo and Hugo Rodallega have not been blasting goals this season to help their team get points. Until 15 games played by Wigan, they each only managed to score four and one goal.
Earlier, the Daily Mail had reported that Martinez is currently very interested in a striker owned by Manchester United. Not Michael Owen or Dimitar Berbatov, but it is Mame Biram Diouf that seems to attract Wigan’s manager. Wigan now is said to try to get the former Blackburn Rovers forward on loan.
Being in a club with many talented stars in front like Wayne Rooney and Javier ‘Chicharito Hernandez, the 24-year-old forward rarely gets a chance to play for United. Seeing this fact, it is not surprising that Roberto Martinez believes Diouf is a very realistic target for Wigan.
Since 2009, Diouf was only trusted by Sir Alex Ferguson to play in five matches in the Premier League. From the lack of chance he is given, Diouf could only manage to score on goal for the Red Devils.
If this transfer succeeds, this certainly will be a very good news for Wigan because they could really need more power up front to help them score more goals and lift their morale. Diouf previously had been by United to Molde and Blackburn Rovers. He was not able to compete as he returned to Old Trafford so there is a possibility that Sir Alex could grant this loan transfer.
Previously, another promising young striker, Federico Macheda, also left Manchester United on loan to Queens Park Rangers. Like Diouf, Macheda failed to compete with the stars that United has up front. A loan will surely be beneficial for players who rarely gets the chance to play to get more first team football, and Mame Biram Diouf’s loan to Wigan Athletic will also benefit both sides.
