The Gelsenkirchen side have previously been closely linked with Guillaume Hoarau, but rumours of a transfer have cooled due to Paris Saint-Germain’s transfer fee demands, which are allegedly on the steep side. Still searching for a strike partner for new signing Raul, and a direct replacement for departed striker Kevin Kuranyi, Schalke have allegedly set their sights on Huntelaar.

Since leaving the Eredivisie in 2009, Huntelaar has featured for both Real Madrid and Milan, but had limited success at both clubs. Nonetheless, the 26-year old remains a highly rated forward, having scored 105 goals in 136 appearances for Ajax.

Eredivisie - Heracles picked up the lead via Mark Looms after only sixteen minutes of play. The defender was allowed too much space and headed home a cross from Willy Overtoom. The Almelo side kept on pushing for more and Overtoom double the lead for Heracles in the 27th minute. The referee had no choice but to award the hosts a spot kick after Kristian Bak Nielsen handled the ball inside the box and Overtoom calmly slotted home from twelve yards. Heerenveen fought back though and young attacker Oussama Assaidi pegged one back with ten more minutes to go. It was too little too late though, as towering forward Bas Dost restored Heracles’ two-goal lead only minutes later.

Groningen started the game brilliantly and needed only four minutes to open the score. Versatile midfielder Koen van der Laak was on the receiving end of a Leandro Bacuna pass and Van der Laak tapped home at the far post. Groningen kept on dominating, but they failed to extend their lead. The second half was all Feyenoord‘s and Serbian midfielder Stefan Babovic levelled the score after 54 minutes with a powerful shot. The away side had hardly recovered from that blow when experienced striker Roy Makaay added a second. The former Dutch international fired in a shot that deflected off Gibril Sankoh past the Groningen goalie. The northern side did their utmost to equalize, but a fine finish from Jon Dahl Tomasson in the final minutes of the game made things even worse for Groningen.

Eredivisie Football News – According to De Telegraaf, Amsterdam giants Ajax have received some disappointing news from the treatment table in the aftermath of their 4-2 Eredivisie victory against AZ on Sunday.

Star player Luis Suarez, who netted a brace against the reigning Dutch champions, has picked up a groin injury in his side’s away win and will possibly be unavailable for a number of days.

The Uruguayan international was forced to sit out on Monday’s training session due to the knock. Suarez will probably miss Thursday’s KNVB Beker game against Dordrecht, but the 22-year-old expects to be match fit in time for the upcoming league clash against rivals Feyenoord.

“I’m still feeling pain in my groin. I’m not sure whether I will be available on Thursday, but I’m confident that I’ll be recovered in time to face Feyenoord on Sunday,” Suarez said.
