Andre Villas-Boas‘ position as manager of Chelsea is increasingly getting under pressure after Guus Hiddink, who has affinity with club owner Roman Abramovich, is no longer coach of the Turkish national team starting this week.

Hiddink was released by Turkey after failing in the Euro 2012 qualifiers play-off against Croatia. His free status blows rumors of a change in the manager’s position at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea’s performance with Villas-Boas are behind nine points from 11 games from the top of the standings in the Premier League.

“No problem,” says Villas-Boas responding to the current status of Hiddink.

“His period with Chelsea is quite good. It does not mean he can sustain success when dealing with the club on this dimension. But Guus is one of the world’s best managers. Currently, there are no vacancies. When there is a vacancy, I am sure he will be one of the favorite candidate. ”

Hiddink was with Chelsea for three months with a fairly good achievement, where they only lost once in the Premier League, knocked on away goals in the Champions League semi-finals, and won the FA Cup.

Turkish national team are determined to keep Guus Hiddink as coach, and will not release him to Chelsea so they will be reject if the Blues make an official bid.

Hiddink is widely rumored lately to become the strongest candidates for coach of Chelsea for next season because current coach Carlo Ancelotti will almost certainly be sacked after this season end as the Blues are performing disappointingly this season.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is said to want Hiddink back after success when he coached the team for several months in 2009 when they won the FA Cup.

Turkish national team communications manager Turker Tozar ensured that they would reject if Chelsea made an offer to use the services of Hiddink.

Turkey wants to keep the services of the former Australia coach until the 2014 World Cup regardless of whether they will qualify for the EURO 2012 or not.

“Just last week we rejected the approach from Ajax Amsterdam and the contract between Hiddink with our president (Mahmut Ozgener) did not allow him to work for a club while he works for the Turkish national team,” said Tozar.

“We understand people like Roman Abramovich have Hiddink in his mind but if he made the offer to us it will be rejected,” said Tozar to The Telegraph.

“If you see Hiddink’s career he has always fulfilled his contract and he also told us Turkey could be his last stop as a coach. We will be glad if he led us up to the 2014 World Cup final round,” continued Tozar.

The return of Roberto Bettega at the club has paved the way for Hiddink to come in and replace the underfire Ferrara.

The report suggests Bettega has already opened up dialogue with Hiddink and the two men have reached a consensus so he can join the club officially on January 2 – when the Italian transfer market re-opens for business.

It means Hiddink’s first game in charge will be against Parma on January 6, before he welcomes Milan to the Stadio Olimpico four days later.

The vice general director has been hard at work trying to understand where Juve have been going wrong, and he has designed a number of action plans that he hopes will cure the problem.

Despite the report, Juventus have always confirmed their faith in Ciro Ferrara, even denying they were in contact with Hiddink last week.

But Bettega’s arrival appears to have resparked the speculation surrounding the Italian’s future.

The Korean Football Association have approached Hiddink to coach them as they take part in a World Cup finals for the first time since 1966. They have been drawn in the group of death alongside Brazil, Ivory Coast and Portugal.

Dutch television programme Voetbal International have reported that Hiddink cited “respect for the Russian football federation” as his reason for refusing to coach North Korea. He failed to take Russia to the World Cup, losing a play-off to Slovenia on away goals last month.

Hiddink has a strong finals record having coached teams at each of the last three World Cup finals. He guided the Netherlands to fourth place in 1998, before taking joint hosts South Korea to a surprise fourth place finish in 2002. At the last World Cup in Germany, Hiddink’s Australia side crashed out of the tournament in the second round after a contentious injury time penalty for eventual winners Italy.

The Dutchman was appointed as temporary boss at Stamford Bridge, after the sacking of Luis Felipe Scolari, and has guided the club to the FA Cup final and Champions League semi-final, as well as making a push for the Premier League title this season.

The Russia coach has always stated his intentions to leave the Blues at the end of the season, and has said he will retire after the World Cup next year in South Africa. The 62-year-old has praised the team’s passion for the game, in the wake of their Champions League semi-final defeat to Barcelona.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Hiddink said, “It’ll be tough to leave it all, that’s true.

“I love to work with this club. I’m not defending where they crossed the line, but the way the boys reacted against Barcelona [in the Champions League] shows that there is such a very strong desire and personality in this team.

“They like to fight for their chances. I’ve worked with them with a lot of joy.

“I’ve enjoyed working with this team. The players here aren’t just enjoying a good life, putting their feet up in luxury.

“They want to perform at a big club. That makes it very enjoyable and difficult to leave. I feel as if I’ve been intrinsically involved with this club.

“I could have come here and just gone through the motions, done a daily routine, for three months. But that’s not the way I like to work.

“Okay, sure, you don’t feel as if you’re a part of things on day one but I had that after a week here. In the end, though, we part. That’s just how it is. Let’s not be too dramatic. That’s life.”

The former PSV Eindhoven boss has just four more games left in charge of the Blues, one of which will give him the chance to win the FA Cup against Everton on May 30.

Petr Cech who has been rated as one of the best keepers in the world had only just signed a contract extension last year. But the Blues are concerned by the increasing number of mistakes that Cech has been responsible for recently.

The report may come as a surprise, because Gomes himself had made several high-profile errors since arriving at White Hart Lane in June 2008.

However, current Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink, apparently rates Gomes highly as he signed him while in charge of Dutch club PSV.

“Gomes is exceptional and was almost single-handedly responsible for getting PSV to the Champions League semi-finals. He is not afraid and has fantastic reflexes,” Hiddink was quoted as saying last November.

The first leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie is at Anfield tomorrow night, and the Dutchman feels that there is very little to choose between the two teams.

“When players know each other very well, there are no secrets, it is sometimes said that the managers must do something extra,” he told reporters at his Anfield press conference today.

“But I think that is exaggerated because the manager does not play. We have our plans, they have their plans how to fight us and in the end the players must deliver.

“Of course I have prepared them very seriously for these beautiful games at the end of season. These games are finals, watched by the whole world.”

Hiddink concluded on a positive note, highlighting the fact that his side were not going to play for a draw on Merseyside. He said, “We come here not to sit back and wait and react. It is not the way to play football in my philosophy, nor the team’s concept of how to play football. Whenever we can we try to take the initiative.

“If you can score an away goal that is always a big blow for the home team. If they have conceded, it is always very difficult to recover that.”

The Russians got off to a slow start this evening, having to wait until 26 minutes in before they managed their first real goal threat. Arsenal’s Andrey Arshavin provided the cross that Dmitri Torbinsky nodded awkwardly towards goal, but goalkeeper Peter Jehle was there to keep the score tied at 0-0.

Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko put the ball in the net dead on the half hour mark, but the goal was disallowed due an offside ruling by the Irish officials.

Ten minutes after Pavlyuchenko’s offside goal, Russia broke the deadlock through Zyryanov. Andrey Arshavin again provided a wonderful assist, sending the ball into the area from distance allowing Zyryanov to nip the ball past Jehle from 8 yards out.

Liechtenstein certainly didn’t lie down during the match, and although they lacked a certain cutting edge, Michele Polverino made a real nuisance of himself by testing Igor Akinfeev several times from distance.

Late attempts came from Arshavin, Pavlyuchenko and Yuri Zhirkov as the visitors went in search of the goal that would put the game to bed, but Jehle stood strong between the sticks.

The final stages of the game saw Russia on edge, as Lietchtenstein bombarded Akinfeev’s goal with a succession of attempts. Roger Beck struck inches wide of the mark from the edge of the box, whilst substitute defender Fabio D’Elia forced a save from the Russian stopper with a decent headed effort.

The late flurry from Lietchtenstein was not enough though, as Russia were firm enough to see the game to the out, and claim all three points.
